Holdur Car Rental - Europcar is the first car rental in Iceland to claim certification according to the ISO9001 quality standard and the ISO14001 environmental standard.
In 2013 the company was awarded as the Environmental Award presented by the Icelandic Tourist Board.
In 2019 the company was awarded as the Educational Company of the Year presented by the Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise.
In 2020 the company was among the first in Iceland to meet the requirements of the Standard ÍST85, Equal Wage Management System Requirements and guidance (normally called The Equal Pay Standard)
In 2022 the company was awarded the Responsible Tourism Award by the the president of Iceland in accordance with the key aspects of the project of Responsible Tourism awards. Noting that Holdur Car Rental - Europcar is an incentive for other tourism companies to constantly improve when it comes to the balance between the environment, the economy and society.

The company had humble beginnings. Starting in 1966 with only five cars at one location in northern Iceland. In the early 1980's Holdur became a franchisee holder in Iceland for the international car rental chain Europcar. Today Holdur is Iceland's largest car rental by far and operates at 20 locations in Iceland with a fleet of more than 7000 vehicles.
